UC Clermont Celebrates Earth Day

UC Clermont College will celebrate Earth Day on April 22.

Join Dean Greg Sojka, the Clermont College Earth Day Committee along with Cincinnati's Taking Root Initiative in planting 40, 4- to 6-foot-tall trees to enhance the Clermont College campus. The campus lost more than 100 trees due to the emerald ash borer insect in the past couple of years.

Volunteers should meet at the flagpole at 1 p.m. – rain or shine. The Earth Day committee will give seedlings, while they last, to all volunteers. The list of trees being planted on Earth Day include:

•  Red Sunset Red Maple
•  Yellow Buckey
•  Autumn Brilliance Amelanchier
•  Red Bud
•  Winter King Hawthorn
•  Hapdell  Sweetgum
•  Black Gum
•  Moonglow Sweetbay Magnolia
•  Swamp or Red Oak
•  Bald Cypress
•  Spring Grove Arborvitae
•  American Elm

In addition to the tree planting, UC Clermont College will again play host to 177 second-grade students from Batavia Elementary. Earth Day celebrations will include: Earth Day Fair, face painting booths, demonstrations and fun activities; Cincinnati Zoo bird shows and tree seedling giveaway. The organized activities will showed the second-graders firsthand how the environment can be nurtured by everyone.
