UC ingot   The Dental Hygiene Clinic at UC Blue Ash College is offering free dental care to the public during Community Dental Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at 9555 Plainfield Road, Blue Ash.

The event is free, but the number of patients who can be treated is limited. Anyone who is interested in attending must register by Friday, Jan. 29, by going to www.ucblueash.edu/dentalday.

To help accommodate as many patients as possible, each person will receive one free service during the event, choosing from fillings, extractions, teeth cleanings, or sealants.

The goal of the UC Blue Ash Community Dental Day is to provide access to dental care for those who do not have dental insurance or who have never been to a dentist. A report by the Ohio Department of Health shows that 45 percent of adults in Ohio do not have dental insurance, while more than half of the children across the state have experienced tooth decay by the third grade.

“There is such a need for access to quality dental care across the nation, and it’s no different in Greater Cincinnati,” says Cady Short-Thompson, dean of UC Blue Ash College. “We are hosting this event to help make a difference, to help some of the most underserved portions of our population receive the care they need.”

Six local dentists and countless dental professionals are generously donating their time to help with Community Dental Day. “This event would not be possible without the amazing generosity that exists in the dental care community in Greater Cincinnati,” says Cyndee Stegeman, chair of the Dental Hygiene Department at UC Blue Ash. “We are amazed and so grateful to all who give their time and expertise to help those in need.”

Donations from local organizations also make this event possible. The Dental Care Plus Group and Maxwell Weaver Foundation have both donated funds to support new equipment and supplies that allow for more restorative care opportunities in the Dental Hygiene Clinic.

Students in the dental hygiene program at UC Blue Ash regularly provide oral health exams and teeth cleanings for patients in the clinic at a very discounted rate, but a dentist is required to deliver restorative care for patients who need fillings or teeth extractions.
