TODAY: Langsam Library Celebrates 25 Years of Service
The staff at the University of Cincinnatis Langsam Library invites the UC and neighboring communities to join them in the celebration of the librarys 25th anniversary on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The library program starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Event Pavilion (located adjacent to the Alumni Center).
The program will begin with a welcome by Victoria A. Montavon, dean and university librarian, and will continue with remarks from Henry R. Winkler, who was president of UC when the library was dedicated in 1978, and the 1978 vice provost for University Libraries, Hal B. Schell. UC Provost Anthony J. Perzigian will then address guests before the celebration moves to the patio area beside the main entrance to the library (rain location will be the sixth floor of Langsam Library). The patio reception will be held from 2-3:30 p.m.
The library was first named the New Central Library when it was dedicated in 1978, but was then renamed the Walter C. Langsam Library in 1986 in honor of the former UC president. Before the building was constructed, UCs Blegen Library, which opened in 1930, had been serving as the main library on campus. UCs very first library building, the Van Wormer Library, opened in 1899.
