The PACES committee was created as a response to the UC President signing The American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). By signing the ACUPCC, the president acknowledged UC’s concern about the unprecedented scale and speed of global warming and its potential for large-scale, adverse health, social, economic and ecological effects. By signing, she also committed UC to exercising leadership in our community by modeling ways to minimize global warming emissions, and by providing the knowledge and the educated graduates to achieve climate neutrality.
Some of the specific tasks involved in carrying out this commitment are as follows.
- Advise the leadership team identified above on implementation of the plan for meeting the goal of carbon neutrality.
- Periodically report progress to ACUPCC and update UC data as we achieve milestones set by ACUPCC.
- Serve as a focal point for information for all sustainability programs and projects undertaken by the University.
- Promote sustainability projects and programs across the university.
- Track the progress of projects related to the committee’s mission.
- Lend guidance and expertise on projects.
- Ensure UC is leader amongst our peers in being in the forefront of obtaining carbon neutrality.
- Promote cooperation and communication between Administration, Academic and Student constituents.
- Coordinate projects with other signers of the ACUPCC as well as other groups we may partner with.
- Follow the trends in the sustainability community.
- Hire a Sustainability Coordinator to management day to day operations of the committee.
- Manage financial and other resources of the committee.
