Building on our research and innovation strengths, UC's Cluster Hiring Initiative supports existing and emerging partnerships within and between colleges, divisions and areas. In partnership with the Vice President of Research, the Provost’s cluster hiring investments harness the power of faculty members focused on solving the world’s biggest challenges through leading-edge research and interdisciplinary collaborations that erase boundaries and embrace creative, bold ideas.

Designed to attract top-quality faculty from around the world, UC’s Clusters represent the university’s commitment to investing in faculty and interdisciplinary problem-solving.

UC's first clusters tackle big data, converged media, the complexities of cancer and water sustainability. Chosen after a competitive selection process, these clusters bring together hundreds of faculty and researchers and millions of dollars of funding.

Big Data

The Analytics Cluster harnesses the power of Big Data to solve big problems and inform big decisions. It builds on an active and sustaining partnership between faculty, staff, students, colleges and campus-wide units poised to maximize their networking potential to benefit society.

Emedia Students

The Digital Media Collaborative connects a strong network of faculty in a wide range of academic units to promote excellence in digital media research, creative scholarship and education. Digital Communication, Design, Journalism and Electronic Media, along with related research fields, form the backbone of the forward-focused initiative that explores the evolution of communication in our digital world.

The Precision Cancer Cluster addresses the major health challenges of cancer by promoting interdisciplinary advances in medical treatment and innovative research in genetics, epigenetics and metabolomics.

Collaborators:  College of Allied Health Sciences, McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, and College of Pharmacy, University of Cincinnati. Department of Pediatrics, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.



Water Treatment Plant

UC’s Water Cluster establishes our region as a national and global leader in water research, education and outreach centered on integrated water resources management within and across natural and engineered systems. By bringing water planning and management experts together, the Water Cluster provides a supportive platform for new approaches to environmental sustainability.
