Flu Vaccine Status
(Current as of October 21st)
H1N1 Vaccination The live vaccine will be given to:
- UC students and employees with a UC ID (you must bring your ID)
- Under 50 without chronic health conditions (cannot be pregnant, or have medical conditions, ie asthma)
Seasonal Flu Vaccination The Centers for Disease Control recommends regular (seasonal) flu shots in addition to the H1N1 vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine offers little or no protection against regular, seasonal flu. Additionally, contracting with one type of flu increases the likelihood of contracting the other type, because of a weakened immune system. For more information, see www.flu.gov
To check the availability of either vaccine click here http://www.uc.edu/uhs
University Health Service Seasonal flu mist vaccine when available is at a cost of $ 20. Flu Mist vaccine is live, weakened, influenza virus sprayed into the nostrils and inhaled. It is considered to be an effective alternative to the flu shot. Flu Mist is an option only for people ages 2 to 49 who do not have asthma or a compromised immune system.
Human Resources UC Human Resources has arranged for free seasonal flu shots to be offered again this year through HealthWorks. To register go to: http://www.cincyhealthworks.com Click on “Schedule an Appointment” and select a UC location. The flu shot is free for those covered under the University’s Humana Health Plan. You must bring your ID card to demonstrate coverage. Non–Humana participants will be charged $22. Please remember to: Wear short sleeve shirt/top.
