UC Serves

UC Serves is back for its fifth year in 2018! UC Serves 2018 will take place on Friday, May 18, 2018 with 50 projects across Greater Cincinnati to celebrate 5 years of service. Follow the story using #UCServes and check out a Google Map with details about all the projects.

Last year's fourth annual #UCServes brought together over 400 Faculty/Staff from the University of Cincinnati to participate in a day of service throughout the greater Cincinnati region that included over 40 different service sites and over 2800 hours of service in our community. About UC Serves

UC connects with its neighbors and builds stronger connections within the campus community through UC Serves. UC Serves is a day especially for staff and faculty to share in the common experience of intentional, focused service to the communities surrounding University of Cincinnati campuses.

In the same mold as the annual Into the Streets one-day service project for students, UC Serves offers staff the chance to give back to the community while building a stronger network of colleagues on campus through the shared experience of meaningful engagement.

Take a closer look at the impact of UC Serves in our Newsletter.

UC Serves is an opportunity organized especially for University of Cincinnati faculty and staff to give back to the community through meaningful engagement. Think of UC Serves as a way to embrace the university's commitment to enhancing communitywide partnerships and investing in faculty and staff development as outlined in UC's strategic vision - Next Lives Here. UC Serves will allow you to not only "talk the talk" but also "walk the walk" through one day of intentional, focused service to the communities surrounding University of Cincinnati campuses.

UC Serves is where you want it to be. Service sites will be established in the communities surrounding University of Cincinnati campuses – Clifton, Clermont and Blue Ash. For example, if you work at the Uptown Campus but live closer to Blue Ash, you can decide to volunteer near either location. We have created a Google Map with details about all the projects.

UC Serves will offer a variety of service options, allowing you to choose a preferred volunteering experience that suits your interests. Maybe you have a knack for gardening, or maybe you’re handy with a hammer and nail. It's your choice – you can suggest how you would prefer to contribute. Here are a few options:

  • Physical service, like performing basic home repairs for veterans or individuals with disabilities
  • Environmental service, like planting trees or beautifying a neighborhood park or community space
  • Working with children, adults or animals to increase quality of life and to demonstrate UC’s interest in compassionate outreach
  • Administrative or clerical support to increase the capacity of a nonprofit or community-based organization

We are taking a new approach to registration by empowering you to choose your own service project from a list of options in the UC volunteer portal. At the registration page, you will have the option to select a project that appeals to you based on your interests and needs (type of project, organization name, location). Alternatively, you can choose the "REGISTER ME ANYWHERE" option. Once you find the right option for you, select “Respond” in the upper right-hand corner. If it's your first time using the UC volunteer portal, you will be prompted to establish a user profile first, then you can click through or return to this email to follow the link below and complete your registration. With an established user profile, you will be asked a few questions that are specific to UC Serves when you "Respond" to the project of your choice. Once you finish registration, you should get a confirmation email. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the process!

As you look through the service sites, keep in mind that UC Serves is about making connections – meeting new people at the university and in the community. One of the most consistent messages we receive about UC Serves is how much people love meeting new colleagues. Please sign up based on the details of the project, the location, the organization – whatever speaks to you. We ask that you avoid signing up in groups based on offices. If you do not have a preference for where you serve or the type of work you do, register for the second option below, and you will be placed by our team and will receive confirmation of your location via email. Also, please check with your supervisor to ensure that they are aware of your participation. To help you select a project, we've created a Google Map with details about all the projects. You can also search and filter the projects in various ways within the UC volunteer portal.

Emerging Leaders in Student Affairs (ELSA) organized UC Serves. ELSA seeks to cultivate a landscape of professional scholarship and advancement among rising staff members at UC. The group is open to staff members whose work would benefit from increased professional development opportunities, exposure to Student Affairs research and professional networking and mentoring programming. Get involved with ELSA.
