Thank you to all who volunteered and donated during the Fall 2009 All-Campus Blood Drive.  The UC All Campus Blood Drive resulted in the collection of 448 RBC’s, 16 Platelets and 14 units of Plasma for a total of 478 products, thus helping to save 1,434 lives!

Potential Donors:
***Ask about donating double reds!

Donating blood is safe and easy. You must be at least 17 years old and in good health. You must weigh at least 110 pounds, eat a good meal within four hours of donating and bring identification to donate. For further information regarding medicines, immunizations or other medical questions pertaining to blood donation, call Hoxworth’s Donor Services at (513) 558-1304.

Give Blood - The Gift of Life

Every three seconds, someone needs blood. Each day, patients across the country receive approximately 34,000 units of this vital resource; and everyday, UC Hoxworth Blood Center needs to collect 350 units of blood to support the needs of patients in the Greater Cincinnati area. This year alone, as many as four million patients will require blood transfusions as accident victims, people undergoing surgery, and patients receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer and other diseases. We often overlook our dependence on donated blood.

Patients are counting on YOU to help us recover from our shortages and replenish the blood supply for this Fall. We also hope that you will encourage your friends and peers from classes and student organizations to make the decision to become lifesavers by donating blood.

If you have questions about donating, please contact Eric D. Schmaltz at Eric.Schmaltz@uc.edu or (513) 558-1343.
