Gerhard Lammers immigrated to America in the 1920s to decorate the interior of St. Joseph Cathedral in Wheeling, West Virginia. He settled in Cincinnati and painted numerous churches in Cincinnati, becoming quite possibly the most prolific German immigrant painter of Catholic Churches in America.
