Crime Trend Update

CSR NIBRS Offenses

  • Jan 1 through March 10. Property offenses up 3% largely driven by vehicles
  • Personal offenses are down 9%
  • Society offenses are up 29%

NIBRS Offenses: Society

  • Primary drivers are trespassing mainly off campus

CSR NIBRS Offenses: Person

  • The primary driver is intimidation such as threatening physical harm
  • Robbery is up 10% over a 3-year average but down 1 from last year

CSR NIBRS Offenses: Property

  • Most theft categories are down except for vehicle-related i.e. theft from motor vehicles, motor vehicle thefts, and theft of motor vehicle parts
  • Motor vehicle thefts are up more than other motor vehicle offenses same across the nation
  • UCPD will be partnering with Student Government and Student Safety Board to hand out steering wheel locks to students and employees who own a KIA or Hyundai
  • UCPD will raise awareness of a software update that has been recently released for at-risk vehicles
  • UCPD has been partnering with Student Safety Board to distribute window locks to students they are simple to use and renter-friendly

IACLEA reaccreditation assessment

  • 2019 we became accredited
  • Every 4 years reassessment is approximately in September or October
  • Call-in session will be publicized for the community to call in and give feedback about how we're doing

Personnel Updates

Director Eliot Isaac

  • Officer Bradley Shultz graduated on February 17, 2023
  • New officers Sean Boughen, Eric McFarland, and Tom Trabel were hired and are now in Field Training
  • Sergeant process – final interviews scheduled
  • Captain process - final interviews scheduled
  • Currently conducting hiring processes for Emergency Communications Dispatchers, Police officers, and Security officers

Use of Force

  • January 7: A Police Officer pointed his firearm at a suspect while assisting Cincinnati Police with apprehension.
    • Consistent with training and Use of Force Policy
  • February 12: A Police Officer displayed a conducted electrical weapon to arrest a suspect.
    • Consistent with training and Use of Force Policy

Internal Investigations

  • November 5: The Emergency Communication Dispatcher displayed a lack of urgency when dispatching a fight call to Daniels Hall.
    • Exonerated
  • February 14: A Security Officer made an inappropriate sexual comment to an office staff member.
    • Sustained
