Psychology Intern

Shawn Saylors, he/him, is a full-time psychology intern at the UC CAPS Calhoun location. He is completing his doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Springfield College. He has a master’s in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Denver and Bachelor’s in Psychology from Clemson University. Shawn tries to meet clients where they are through a cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and strengths-based approach. Shawn believes therapy is a partnership with meeting the client where they are at and understanding that each individual has their own personal journey. Clients have a different set of individual needs and Shawn believes it is important to tailor therapy specifically to the client. His goal is to be someone in his clients' lives who is empathic and genuine, fostering growth in the client and aiding in their personal journey to be the best version of themselves. Clinically, Shawn enjoys working with student-athletes as well as the military population and student-veterans. Additionally, he is interested in identity development, resiliency, positive psychology, skill and performance enhancement, student self-care and well-being, transition and adjustment, relationship issues, social skills, clinical supervision/teaching/training, and outreach.

What I like to do when I’m not at work: I’m a big sports fan and enjoy music so you can catch me attending live music/concerts, going to the sporting events, as well as traveling to new places to try different food around the city with my spouse.

Coping skills I recommend to clients that I actually use myself: Deep breathing, exercising, grounding exercises, and practicing gratitude
