Student of the Month

The University Honors Program wants to highlight students who have been doing exceptional work during their time in the program. If you know a UHP student that’s been doing exceptional work this semester and you want to get them featured, nominate them for Student of the Month! You are also permitted and encouraged to nominate your own work as well.

The guidelines are simple, submit an honors student that has been doing substantial work during either an interesting experience or setting a great example for their peers! Fill out the short form below and their name will be entered for consideration, please answer all the questions fully with appropriate reasoning. If your nomination is not chosen, please feel free to submit them again for the next month. There is no limit to how many people you can nominate, and submissions are reviewed monthly.

Submissions will be gathered and scored based on amount of content provided as well as if the student’s work is timely with when it will be announced. Selected students will then be contacted, asked to provide a picture for the website, and proofread what will be displayed on the website.

Keyona Schill

Keyona is only a second year and is an excellent role model. She is currently a Presidential Cincinnatus, McNair, Honors, and Gen-1 scholar. She's currently involved in CECH Tribunal as Senator in Student Government, Camp Kesem, CJ Society, UHP Welcome Experience Mentor, and Bearcats Academy. She loves to visit her mentees at CPS high schools through the Bearcat Academy to engage with the students and help prepare them for college. She has worked extremely hard to keep her tribunal active by hosting events, working on initiatives, and engaging with the students within CECH.

Claire Minton

Claire is a 4th year DAAP student majoring in Communication Design. She's highly involved in UHP, and has recently been a Welcome Experience Coordinator, UHP Ambassador, and as a member of the Ambassador Leadership Team. When she's not on co-op, you'll find her working in our office in Swift Hall!
In Fall 2022, Claire completed her sixth Honors Experience by taking the honors seminar "JOUR2050: Travel Writing in Iceland," and then embarked on a week-long trip with nineteen new friends. She loved exploring outside in new places, from the Blue Lagoon to hiking a glacier to touring a lava field on horseback. She returned to Ohio with what seemed like a million photos to sort through and a few phrases in broken Icelandic: "Thetta reddast" or "it will all work out."

John Bailey

As a first year student, John is enrolled in Strange Tools as a seminar. John is an education major so this seminar is outside of his realm of study. He has been very optimistic and excited for the class and when he came out of the first meeting, he was very excited to talk about it. John said that he would even be willing to pay for me to take the seminar the next semester it is offered so that I can experience the fun and excitement of it. John is also working with me to help get a proposal for a self-designed experience written up and submitted. He is committed to UHP and enjoys the challenge he receives from the program!

Cara Baah-Binney

Cara is one of four UC students to successfully be launched as University Innovation Fellow through a global program facilitated by Stanford University. On her team of four, Cara has demonstrated leadership in tangible ways like ensuring the team is organized and meeting deadlines as well as by considering team dynamics and guiding conversations and decisions they make. Taking on the training and project work associated with this program is a significant commitment, and she's doing this while still holding leadership positions in other organizations on campus and in the community.

Max Renay-Lopes

Max has completed four honors experiences within his first two semesters as a member of the program. He is the current president/founding member of the UC DECA club, a PACE Leader in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, and a Teaching Assistant for an Introduction to Marketing course-- all of which contribute to his honors experiences. Additionally, he has introduced the program to several first-year students that he mentors. Through his involvement in DECA, while he was attending the Collegiate International Career Development Conference in Baltimore, MD, he was awarded 1st overall in the preliminary competition, a top-3 test score in the cluster examination, the Diplomat Leadership Passport Award, and placed 5th in the world in his individual case study.
