Dear Bearcat:
As you prepare to attend UC, University Housing wants to ensure you do not overlook applying for housing or an exemption request to the university on-campus housing requirement. At this time, our records indicate we have received neither from you.
Current permanent address of record:
# Street
City, State/Province ZIP/Postcode
You are required to reside in University Housing based on the above address. The university’s outside 50-mile on-campus housing requirement is an important policy to note:
All unmarried first-year students, or transfer students not transferring 30 credit hours or more, who are not residing with their parents inside a 50-mile radius of the main campus, are required to live in the residence halls during their first academic year.
Space for fall semester is limited. By submitting your housing application as soon as possible, you will improve the possibility of receiving the assignment you prefer. The process is simple: access the online application by visiting the housing portal to apply.
While circumstances may necessitate an exemption to the outside 50-mile on-campus housing requirement, please note that these exceptions are rare. If you believe your circumstance warrants an exception, please contact University Housing to request an exemption request form. If you are no longer attending the University of Cincinnati, please be sure to cancel your admission with the University.
If you need assistance with the application or if you have any questions regarding university housing, please contact University Housing at 513-556-6461 or at uchousing@uc.edu.

NOTE: The following message was sent to the all students assigned to the Comfort Suites and MainStay Suites communities.
Hello Bearcat,
We appreciate your patience as we work to complete the assignment process for those final students remaining who met the May 3 priority housing application deadline and subsequent enrollment activities to become eligible for university-managed housing.
I can confidently share that participating in the residential experience, regardless of location, is one of the best ways to transition into the Bearcat community and set yourself up for future success. We are excited to welcome just over 8,000 Bearcats into university-managed housing this academic year.
Later today, you will receive an email that contains information about your housing assignment. You are receiving this message because you are assigned to live in our Comfort Suites or Mainstay Suites communities. As you prepare for move-in, we wanted to provide information about the communities and general information about the check-in process.
On-Site Support
University Housing has leased the entire community, so you will only be staying here with other students; no hotel guests. The Comfort Suites and Mainstay Suites communities will have on-site support in the form of Resident Assistants (RAs) who live on-site. RAs will host periodic community meetings, beginning shortly after move-in to provide additional information about campus resources and events. Students are also able to use the on-site fitness center, laundry facilities, and will not need to bring their own bedding as they will be provided and periodically cleaned for them.
Checking In
Check-in for first-year students begins on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 9 a.m. To check in, park in front of the building and go inside to the front desk. You will then be given room access. You may quickly unload belongings from your vehicle, then park your car in the community’s lot.
Getting to Campus
The Bearcat Transportation System offers a few different options for going back and forth to campus.
- The CP Cincy route includes a stop at Comfort and MainStay Suites during the normal 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. schedule. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes connecting CP Cincy, The Eden, and Comfort and MainStay Suites to Uptown Campus and other locales in the area.
- You can also use the East Shuttle route to and from campus during the day.
- After hours, the NightRide shuttle is available. When using the East or NightRide shuttles, you should use the stop labeled “CP Cincy.”
If you’d like to keep your personal vehicle nearby, you have these options:
- Students can purchase a parking pass for the Comfort and MainStay Suites lot located at the community. Instructions for purchasing a pass will be added to the Parking Services Leased Properties page.
- If you instead purchase a campus parking pass, University Housing will cover the cost to park at the Comfort and MainStay Suites lot, so there’s no need to buy two parking passes! To purchase a campus pass, visit the Parking Services site.
What are my meal plan options?
Typically, all first-year students in university housing must purchase the all-access meal plan. To provide flexibility, first-year students in the Comfort and MainStay Suites community can opt for the 100 Campus Dining Plan instead by completing the Petition Form. If you’d like to have a plan further reduced than the 100 CDP, please provide the requested supplemental information (such as dietary, religious, medical, etc.) in the appropriate spaces on the form.
Will I have the opportunity to move to another community?
Students who wish to be reassigned to another location can contact us to request another placement. It’s possible that due to the high demand, our campus core communities may not have availability for those seeking another space. If you'd like an assignment at another location, please contact our office. If we are unable to accommodate your request prior to move-in, we will do so as soon as possible during the fall semester. The latest you can expect to be reassigned to one of our campus core communities would be the beginning of the spring semester. Students seeking reassignment can additionally utilize our room swap process occurring 3-4 weeks into the Fall Semester to explore our available options. We will provide moving support to you in your new community if and when a desired reassignment takes place.
You can find information regarding the community, answers to frequently asked questions, and more on the Comfort Suites community page and Mainstay Suites community page.
We look forward to seeing you. If you have any questions, please contact us at 513-556-6461 or via email at uchousing@uc.edu.
Sincerely,
Carl Dieso
Assistant Vice President, Housing Operations
To Returning Students for Contract Renewal
Hello Bearcat,
We hope your semester is off to a great start. The housing contract renewal application for the 2023-24 academic year opens for current students on Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. (noon). If you are interested in staying in university housing again next year, please read this email carefully as it contains important information pertaining to the application process.
Highlights for this year
Spaces allocated for contract renewal are limited. Students seeking to renew will have options available primarily in our leased locations (apartment-style) and not all spaces will be available for assignment.
It is important to note that all renewal spaces are first-come, first-served. Roommates are encouraged to discuss preferences prior to Feb. 6. Roommate groups are capped at 2 people (yourself and 1 roommate request).
Once all spaces allocated for contract renewal are exhausted, the renewal application will be closed, and a waitlist will become available. Assignments are not guaranteed for students on the waitlist. If space remains or becomes available, waitlisted students would only then be offered that space, likely by late June or early July.
Next Steps
Beginning Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. (noon), students interested in renewing their contracts with us may complete* an application in the housing portal. To ensure we do not accept more renewal contracts than allocated rooms, the application will close daily at 5 p.m. and reopen the next day at noon until spaces are exhausted. Once space is exhausted, the application will close and interested residents may elect to be placed on the waitlist.
*Remember: a contract is considered complete once the $100 non-refundable application fee is submitted, if applicable. Before entering the portal, have a credit card or other payment information available.
Feb. 10 at 9 a.m., room selection timeslots will be sent to all eligible applicants. Timeslots will be assigned based on the date and time the application is completed. If you are in a roommate group, be sure to assign group leader privileges to the roommate with the earliest timeslot.
Room selection will occur the week of Feb. 13 to 17. Students will sign into the housing portal during their timeslot to select their room.
For more details about the renewal process, including how to select your room, and a list of location options visit the Contract Renewal page.
For how-to videos for completing the application, visit the First Year & New Student Application Process page.
If you have other questions regarding room and/or board charges, please contact us at 513-556-6461 or at uchousing@uc.edu.

Dear Bearcat,
As you know, a decisive time of year is approaching. The opportunity to renew your housing contract for the 2023-24 academic year will begin Feb. 6, 2023, at 12 p.m. This will be the time for you to complete your application and select and self-assign into a specific room for the upcoming year. You received an email with more details about this process on Jan. 30, 2023.
This message is to inform you that you have been identified as a Displaced Resident, which means while you are eligible to apply for housing for next academic year, you will not be able to retain your current room assignment. Displacement can occur due to being assigned to a closed or themed community (e.g., Honors, ROTC, Business, CCM, etc.), or there is a programming change to your current floor/hall.
For more details about the renewal process, including timeline or how to select your room, visit the Contract Renewal page. For how-to videos for completing the application, visit the First Year & New Student Application Process page.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at uchousing@uc.edu or by phone at 513-556-6461.
Regards,
University Housing
Hello,
As a reminder, the housing contract renewal application for the 2023-24 academic year opens for current students on Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. (noon). If you are interested in staying in university housing again next year, please visit our Contract Renewal page for important information about the application process.
Update to Roommate Group Sizes
Our previous communication on Jan. 30 indicated that roommate group sizes would be limited to 2 people (yourself and 1 roommate). We have received several inquiries from renewing students on the subject. In response, University Housing will be increasing the roommate group size for students renewing their housing contracts with us to allow up to 4 total people (yourself and 3 roommates).
Please note, our application system will only allow students with completed applications to be added to roommate groups. This means, if you wish to add someone to your roommate group, that person must have already completed their application at that time.
For how-to videos for completing the application, including creating roommate groups and designating group leaders, visit the First Year & New Student Application Process page.
If you have other questions regarding room and/or board charges, please contact us at 513-556-6461 or at uchousing@uc.edu.
