August 23, 2022

As part of ongoing discussions with The Deacon property manager (Yugo USA), University of Cincinnati (UC) Housekeeping & Maintenance will temporarily assume responsibility from the property manager for housekeeping and maintenance within the facility on behalf of all residents.

Effective 9 a.m. today, Tuesday, August 23, UC Housekeeping & Maintenance has replaced Yugo USA, on an interim basis, as the primary service provider for all housekeeping and maintenance needs.

How to report service needs

University staff will currently continue to offer daily, door-to-door walk-throughs in order to help identify apartments with service needs.

To report a service need, it is important that you complete both of the following steps:

  1. Report maintenance concerns via Yugo's resident portal. At this time, Yugo USA will generate a report to forward to the university. Importantly, by reporting via the resident portal, you will create a Yugo USA record in case future follow-up is needed by the property manager.
  2. At this time, please also report any service issues to the university via email at thedeacon@ucmail.uc.edu. At this time, the university will track and prioritize these requests for response by UC Housekeeping & Maintenance, on an interim basis.

Communication Updates

UC will continue proactive communication with Deacon residents. Those with direct leases with the property may provide name and contact information on this brief form in order to receive those updates. As a direct leaseholder (or family member), we may not be able to reach you if you do not provide your name and contact information.

Additional Support

There are additional resources available to you as UC students whether you need assistance due to a disruption in your academics or wish to speak with counseling and psychological services. Academic advising offices, the CARE Team and CAPS are available to assist you.

If you have any questions, please contact University Housing at: 513-556-6461 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.; or Yugo USA at: 513-599-4598. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this situation.

Sincerely,

As promised in the message sent to you on Aug. 13, the message below serves as an update regarding the postponed move-in at The Deacon.

The property owner/manager, Yugo USA, continues to assess rooms as quickly as possible. Some rooms in The Deacon are impacted by leaks in the sprinkler and the HVAC systems. Additional teams will be on-site over the next two days conducting inspections. University Housing anticipates a status update late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

Please be advised that scheduled move-in at The Deacon remains temporarily suspended until Thursday, Aug. 18, to allow further inspection of the impacted apartments.

We will notify you by email (and text) when check-in resumes.

Staying home until the situation is resolved remains the best way to ensure your convenience and comfort.

As a reminder, if you are already en route, we can assist in finding hotel accommodations for those who are arriving but must delay move-in due to this situation. Though Yugo USA is covering the cost for these hotel stays, a hotel might not be as comfortable or convenient as your own home. For those students and families rerouted to a hotel, UC Housing will facilitate moves from the student’s temporary accommodations if the family must return home.

If you have already checked into The Deacon for fall semester, no action is needed at this time. Occupied units have been cleared to remain occupied while assessment is underway. Additional updates regarding move-in will be provided as soon as possible.

Because we appreciate that your student experience is impacted by your housing, please know that the university is tracking this issue closely. We will keep you apprised as quickly as possible. If necessary, seek to locate temporary housing opportunities for you.
