Family Move-in Guide

Move-in is one of the most exciting times of the year at UC for both students and families. In order to ensure the best experience for everyone, we provide important details in The Family Move-in Guide.

Welcome to University Housing

As we approach campus move-in and look forward to a new academic year and a vibrant campus experience, we welcome our incoming class, recognizing that you are tomorrow’s leaders and innovators.

In the coming year, University of Cincinnati students will embark on a new adventure of not just academic learning but social development too! It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Bearcats family & residence hall community.

In a couple short weeks, you will begin this exciting transition. This guide provides information about preparing for move-in and university living. Use the buttons throughout the guide to lead you to addional web pages for more in-depth information. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Health & Safety Measures

Please visit uc.edu/publichealth for the latest campus guidance, information and details, as all procedures and protocols are subject to revision and updates.

  • The university currently plans to conduct Return to Campus testing of students moving into UC Housing. Questions can be directed to uccovidcheck@ucmail.uc.edu or call 513-558-1773 or 513-556-1772.
  • Students may submit proof of a negative PCR test result received within one week prior to move-in.
  • Fully vaccinated students have the option to voluntarily submit acceptable proof of vaccination (snapshots of your vaccination card, front and back) to: uccovidcheck@ucmail.uc.edu. Once that vaccine documentation is reviewed and verified, the student will be exempted from Return to Campus testing.
  • All students, guests and UC employees will be required to wear facial coverings while indoors.
  • Due to the limited number of carts, residents are expected to empty them immediately upon arriving at their room, and returning them to the elevator lobby.

What to Bring

The DO’S and DONT’S of Packing

What do you really need? While packing for college may seem like an overwhelming task, it doesn’t have to be. Please review our packing list of things for your residence hall, classroom, and personal needs.

With social distancing guidelines, consider packing more lightly - bring only what you need to speed up your move. The solution? Visit our online marketplace for everything you’ll need:

  • Bedding
  • Bath
  • Rugs
  • Storage and decor

Order and have it shipped directly to campus so you have less packing to do!

Parking

For visiting vehicles that do not have an assigned permit for Fall Semester, a voucher will be distributed. This pass will allow single access in and out of the garage that day.

Your student will receive an email in advance of their move-in date with instructions for parking non-permitted vehicles after unloading.

NOTE: Campus parking is NOT available for box trucks or any vehicles with trailers.

Directions/Traffic

Roughly 7,000 students will move into our residence communities over a 10-day period. We coordinate our efforts with local city officials as we are an urban campus with the potential for traffic delays during peak hours. We recommend that you use GPS to route you to your highway exit and follow our directions to your residence. Review our map on the Move-in page.

Weather

While we all will have fingers crossed for sunshine and a clear blue sky, Mother Nature may have other plans. Be sure to check the forecast and plan accordingly. If there is a chance of rain, come prepared with plastic coverings for your belongings. Plastic painter’s drop cloths are ideal for this purpose.

Lines May Require Patience

To avoid as much wait time as possible, 2-hour appointment times are staggered over a period of ten days. Each resident is limited to no more than two (2) guests to assist with move-in. Despite the best planning, there may be situations that require patience and waiting in line. Please be courteous to other families by limiting the number of trips in elevators, if possible.

Designated Areas for Unloading vs. Parking

In order to minimize delays and congestion, it is critical that all families adhere to designated areas for unloading vs. parking. Plan to have all your packed items offloaded within 15 minutes and do not leave your vehicle unattended. The number of loaner carts will be limited. We highly recommend that you bring a cart of your own to speed up the process.

Once your vehicle unload is complete, you will be directed to the nearest parking area. Students who have a permit should move their vehicle to the permitted facility.

Arrival Information

Because we are trying to provide the best move-in experience for you under strict health and safety measures, it is critical that you arrive at the appointment time for which you reserved. For more detailed information about hall opening.

Check-in Process

  • Markings will be set up for queueing at hall entrances to service center (front desk).
  • Student must present UC ID or other identification.
  • Limited contact for key, information exchange.
  • Room Condition Reports will be in-room with instructions for completion.

Setting Up Philo TV Streaming Service & Computer Devices

Instructions for connecting to the university’s secure network are on our room information page. We recommend you review this information before arrival to become familiar with the process. Philo streaming video service with premium channels is available to residents. Stream live shows or record them for later. Instructions for setting up Philo are on the same page as network setup.
