STEM in the Playscape
STEM in the Playscape emerged from a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded research study of teacher pedagogy and children’s informal Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) learning on nature playscapes. STEM in the Playscape are FREE online modules for early childhood educators, program directors, supervisors, or anyone interested in promoting the benefits of play in nature.

In each of the three STEM in the Playscape modules below, the main concepts are presented in a conversational way through a story that unfolds within an early childhood program. Supporting resources are embedded throughout to provide a platform for deeper investigation into a topic.
The modules will introduce you to:
- The importance of play in nature
- STEM learning in early childhood
- Teaching strategies and dispositions that support STEM learning in nature
- Basics of designing nature playscapes

Continuing Education Credits
After successfully completing the STEM in the Playscape modules, you may apply for continuing education credit. This requires completing an application and professional development reflections form. Your submissions will be reviewed and, upon successful completion of the requirements, you will be sent a certificate of completion for contact hours via email. The modules are self-paced and participants can earn 0.5 contact hours per module.
