The benefits available to you reflect UC’s commitment to provide high quality, affordable plans and represent a significant component of your total rewards as a UC employee. 

The university-sponsored medical plans provide comprehensive coverage including preventive care coverage for you and your eligible dependents.  Not every illness is preventable, but living healthier leads to a better quality of life, improved personal and professional productivity and lower out of pocket costs. From the available plan options, you choose which medical plan best matches the needs of you and your family.  Two medical plans are offered: a Health Savings Account (HSA)/High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and a traditional medical plan, or PPO (Preferred Provider Organization).  Both plans provide coverage for the same types of medical services; however, the premium varies based on how the plan pays for those services. Both plans include prescription drug coverage and are administered by Anthem.

When selecting a plan, think about how frequently you visit the doctor, whether you need out-of-network coverage and how you want to balance your employee payroll contributions with what you are required to pay for medical services.

Important Dates and Deadlines

A new hire or a newly eligible employees has 45 days from his/her initial eligibility date to make your enrollment decisions using Employee Self Service (ESS).  An employee may waive participation in medical insurance.

When an employee experiences a life event, also known as a qualifying status change, he/she has 31 days from and including the date of the event to make changes to his/her benefits.
