UC Class of 2011 by the Numbers

The University of Cincinnati celebrates All-University Commencement during two ceremonies on Saturday, June 11, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., in Fifth Third Arena. The Doctoral Hooding and Master’s Recognition Ceremony gets underway at 10 a.m., Friday, June 10, in Fifth Third Arena.

UC’s Office of Institutional Research reports that 4,843 students applied for graduation this spring, earning

514 associate degrees
2,802 baccalaureate degrees
1,156 master degrees
200 doctoral degrees
274 professional degrees
Total number of degrees (some students earn more than one degree) – 4,946

The number of students applying for graduation this spring (4,843) is up 3.9 percent over last spring.

The Class of 2011 includes 171 graduates of Cincinnati Public Schools. It also includes 268 graduates from distance learning programs. Furthermore, 2,344 of the graduates had taken at least one distance-learning course. 2,314 are graduates earning degrees in the science, technology, engineering, math or medical (STEMM) fields.

  • 291 degrees will be awarded cum laude (representing a grade-point-average between 3.60 and 3.7499)
  • 270 degrees will be awarded magna cum laude (GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999)
  • 123 will be awarded summa cum laude (GPA between 3.9 and 4.0)

The average age of the spring graduate is 26. The age of the youngest graduate is 18. UC’s oldest graduate for the spring Class of 2011 is 74.

Number of women earning degrees: 2,744
Number of men earning degrees: 2,099

The graduates represent 62 countries, 46 states (including Washington, DC) and 77 Ohio counties. 12.7 percent reflect a minority group; 8.2 percent are African-American; 5.2 percent are citizens of a country other than the U.S.

Number of graduates who transferred to UC: 905
Number of graduates who transitioned to the Uptown campus from Raymond Walters College or Clermont College to earn baccalaureate degrees: 935
