Be a legend, be a blood donor: Hoxworth calls on UC community to give blood

Donors receive a free T-shirt in exchange for their donation

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati is calling on the Bearcat community to save a life before the end of the school year  and donate blood during the UC All Campus blood drive.

Students, faculty, staff and fans of UC are encouraged to donate blood during the UC All Campus blood drive, beginning Monday, April 12, through Friday, April 16. All donors will receive a FREE “Be a Legend” T-shirt.

Hoxworth donor buses will parked in front of Tangeman University Center each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional blood drives will be held at UC Blue Ash on Tuesday, April 13, and the UC Medical Campus on Thursday, April 15.  A donor bus will be visiting UC Clermont on April 26.

“It’s no secret that our campus blood drives have looked different in the last year, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we’ve still been blown away by the support we receive from the UC community,” said Jackie Marschall, spokesperson for Hoxworth. “The need for blood is only expected to increase as vaccinations become more widespread and life begins to go back to ‘normal,’ so we encourage all eligible Bearcats to roll up their sleeves this week before the end of the school year.”

Hoxworth needs to collect 400 units of blood and 50 units of platelets a day to fulfill the needs of local hospitals. The summer months pose a unique challenge to blood centers across the nation, because while the need for blood typically increases, fewer donors make the time to give.

Appointments are encouraged to maintain proper social distancing, and masks are required of all donors. To schedule an appointment at any of the University of Cincinnati drives, visit www.hoxworth.org/uc or call 513-451-0910.

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home.
