UC faculty member gives opinion on Cincinnati's history of race and policing

In a special letter to the editor, University of Cincinnati sociologist Littisha Bates addresses the need for structural change in this country; “specifically, change that acknowledges that so much of what we see in present day is rooted in policies, processes and procedures of days gone by.”

Bates is an associate professor of sociology and the associate dean for Inclusive Excellence and Community Partnership in UC's College of Arts and Sciences.

The letter is a contribution of opinions requested by the publication to mark the 20th anniversary of Timothy Thomas' death and the unrest that followed.
