UC neurosurgery department awarded exclusive grant
The Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation provides fellowship award to UC
The Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation has selected the University of Cincinnati Department of Neurosurgery as an awardee of a 2021-2022 NREF Clinical Fellowship Grant.
Only 19 institutions received this award, according to Joanne Bonaminio, the Director of Foundation Servies at NREF.
"We were very excited to learn we had won one of these grants," says Penny Schwab, the department's program manager. Schwab says the grant will be used to fund an enfolded CAST Spine Fellowship for Zachary Plummer, MD (PGY-7).
NREF chose University of Cincinnati for this prestigious grant based on details of the spine fellowship program. "We had to submit case numbers, curriculum, clinical components, research opportunities, scholarly activities, selection process and expertise of the program's leadership," explains Schwab.
NREF collaborates with reviewers from the AANS and CNS sections to pick the awardees.
