How UC student Lawrence Sapp cleared the lane to Toyko
UC student and PARA athlete is his own fiercest competitor
He wants to swim faster. Faster than he did the day before. That’s the mantra that has led Lawrence Sapp to the Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, where he takes to the swimmer’s block on Aug. 24 (Aug. 25, Tokyo time) and competes through Sept. 3.
The world is just beginning to learn about the UC student who has not only broken world swimming records, but barriers. Sapp has autism and is enrolled in UC’s Transitions and Access Program, which was developed for students with mild to moderate intellectual or developmental disabilities with the desired outcome of employment, living independently and building strong social and community connections.
