WVXU: Lawsuit claims city’s tax break program for homeowners is discriminatory
UC law professor discusses disparate impact claim and the Fair Housing Act
A group of Black residents in Cincinnati has filed a lawsuit against the city of Cincinnati alleging discrimination in how tax abatements are granted. The suit claims the city is more segregated because of the way tax abatements are handed out. A federal judge tossed out claims of intentional discrimination but is allowing a claim that the policy has a disparate impact on minority homeowners to go forward. Cincinnati Edition’s Michael Monks spoke with Nate Ela PhD, assistant professor of political science and law at the University of Cincinnati College of Law and Dan Horn, an investigative reporter with the Cincinnati Enquirer about the lawsuit.

Dr. Liran Oren is leading a research team at the University of Cincinnati developing a VortexPAP machine that takes advantage of vortex airflow technology. A preliminary clinical study with current CPAP users demonstrated that the VortexPAP can deliver the pressure levels that are used in the subjects’ CPAP therapy, but the mask is more comfortable to wear. It has a minimalistic design that is less intrusive and barely touches the patient’s face.
