WLWT-TV: Health experts share concerns ahead of holiday gatherings
UC infectious disease expert says certain groups should be concerned about large gatherings
COVID-19 cases in the region are rising just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Health experts are concerned about people getting together for the holidays, especially for certain groups. Carl Fichtenbaum, MD, of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the UC College of Medicine, was one of the experts interviewed for a story produced by WLWT-TV.
WLWT reported a lot of people are ready to gather with their loved ones after a dialed-back holiday in 2020 — but health experts say COVID-19 is still a threat.
"People should be careful about the size of gatherings and if you have an immune condition or you're older than 65 years of age, I think you should be really cautious about large family gatherings," said Fichtenbaum.
Fichtenbaum said you should know who is and isn't vaccinated wherever you choose to gather.
"I do worry that the holidays are going to see more transmissions and more people who are on the vulnerable cusp becoming infected," he said.
Fichtenbaum said if you feel sick, even just a sniffle, get a COVID-19 test.
Fichtenbaum was also interviewed by Local12 for a story on CDC vaccine advisers recommending COVID-19 booster shots for all adults. See that story here.
