Cheers to Good Health: Events for UC Wellness Week

Eating right, exercising through stress and learning the latest on the battle against HIV and AIDS are the key topics of the University of Cincinnati's Wellness Week Feb. 11-13. The programming, led by the UC Wellness Center, emphasizes how health awareness can lead to longer, more productive lives. The fifth annual UC Wellness Week is free and open to members of the UC community. The schedule for events is as follows:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 11
    Noon, Max Kade German Cultural Center (Old Chemistry Building, Room 736)
    "Eating on the Run and on a Budget," presented by guest speaker Lauren Niemes, executive director of the Nutrition Council of Greater Cincinnati. A free lunch will be provided.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 12
    Noon, Event Pavilion (Across from the Alumni Center)
    "HIV Positive Update," a lecture by award-winning poet and national AIDS activist River Huston, who is HIV-positive. She is author of A Positive Life: Portraits of Women Living With HIV (1997). A free lunch will be provided.
  • 10 a.m.-2 p.m., University Health Services (West Campus), Scioto Hall (Note to media: Because of medical confidentiality, this event is not open to media coverage)
    Free and confidential HIV testing for UC students
  • Thursday, Feb. 13
    Noon, Event Pavilion
    Certified Cincinnati Yoga instructor Julie Lusk, author of Desktop Yoga, presents a lecture on how office workers can ease the aches and pains of stress with simple exercises they can do at their desk. A free lunch will be provided.
