Reunion Weekend Honors "Golden" Alumni

More than 300 alumni and family attended UC’s annual Reunion Weekend June 11-13, where the guests of honor had the once-in-a-lifetime chance to celebrate their 50th class reunion.

Coming from as far as the West Coast, members of the Class of 1954 renewed acquaintances, toured their “old/new” colleges, roamed a very different-looking campus, relocated former stomping grounds, dined sumptuously in the newly revamped Tangeman University Center, accepted induction into the Golden Bearcat Club and beamed frequently for the camera

Speaking to the VIPs at Sunday’s closing Golden Bearcat Luncheon, UC Alumni Association Executive Director David Macejko addressed the honorees:

“Every wonderful thing that UC will do in its exciting future is built on the foundation of our glorious past. And that past is largely a product of your dedication, support and continuing involvement in your university.

“Too much attention is paid to the physical nature of a university — the construction, the campus, the location — and far too little attention is paid to what makes a university great … what makes it human.

“The best proof I can think of is sitting right here in front me … people who understand the unique relationship between an alum and his or her alma mater; people who always keep a special place in their hearts for UC; people who demonstrate what it means to be devoted alumni.”
