Nagy Appointed Interim Dean For UC College Of Law

Donna Nagy, associate dean at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, has been appointed to the post of interim dean, effective Oct. 1, UC Senior Vice President and Provost Anthony J. Perzigian announced today.

"She brings impressive scholarly credentials to the position which, combined with her recent administrative experience and involvement in UC|21 planning, equip her uniquely well to lead the college now as we begin the search for a permanent dean," Perzigian said of Nagy.

The search for a permanent dean, he added, will begin as soon as possible, with Karen Gould, dean of the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, appointed to chair the search committee.

Nagy is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Vassar College and earned her law degree from the New York University School of Law, where she graduated Order of the Coif and served as an articles editor on the Law Review.  Prior to joining the UC College of Law in 1994, she was an associate with Debevoise & Plimpton in Washington, D.C., specializing in securities enforcement and litigation.

Her scholarship in those areas has brought the college national attention, and includes articles published in the Cornell Law Review and the Ohio State Law Journal, as well as two co-authored books, one on the law of insider trading and a recently published casebook on Securities Litigation and Enforcement.  She is often described as "one of the best securities law scholars of her generation," and in 2001 was honored by the college with the title of Charles Hartsock Professor of Law.

She currently serves as chair of the Section on Securities Regulation of the American Association of Law Schools, and is an elected member of the American Law Institute.  She has also distinguished herself as an excellent classroom teacher.

For the last two years, Nagy has served the College of Law as associate dean for Faculty Development. Her principal mission has been to promote superior scholarship, teaching and service at the college, and to help identify and recruit outstanding candidates to join the faculty.
