No More Hassles: UC Improves Access For Transfer Students
The University of Cincinnati has fully adopted new processes to benefit students who want to transfer to UC from other Ohio colleges, technical schools and universities.
"Ohio's articulation and transfer system is elegantly simple in concept," said UC President Nancy L. Zimpher. "Students will now be able to begin a course of study at any college or university in Ohio and be guaranteed that credits will transfer and apply to degree requirements statewide. The policy places students squarely in the center of the educational system and removes many of the institutional barriers that might have made it difficult for students to choose where to go to college."
The new transfer system will allow a student at any Ohio school to see immediately which of his credits will transfer to the University of Cincinnati.
"It takes the guesswork out of decision making for students and minimizes the loss of time and resources," said Mitchel D. Livingston, UC vice president for Student Affairs and Services.
The streamlined transfer system is based on a "students first" philosophy, Zimpher said, and will help Ohio build a better-educated population. Currently, the state ranks 39th in the nation for the percentage of residents with college degrees.
Bob Fee of UC's McMicken College of Arts and Sciences is a member of the statewide articulation and advisory committee, which coordinates the statewide effort. He said Ohio is fortunate to have developed an electronic, Web-based advising tool to assist students and advisors in navigating the transfer process. This electronic advising and transfer tool provides students and potential students an efficient way to see how courses transfer across the system and how the credits apply to a degree. All of Ohio's public campuses have implemented this advising tool for use by advisors and students.

Within the fantasy setting she described, it was hard to tell the adventure was a lesson in ethics.
UC language studies program adopts new technologies

Cultural immersion is a tried-and-true method for teaching languages. U.S. students travel abroad—to Europe, Latin America, Asia and beyond to take a deep dive into the customs, mores, daily life and conversational language that can be challenging to master from home. For those students who can't take advantage of the study-abroad experience, there's another option to gain the same learnings. At UC, the Curricular Enhancement, Development, Access and Research Language Resource Center (CEDAR) has developed a curriculum that features virtual reality (VR) technology to give students a similar opportunity right in the classroom.
