University Of Cincinnati Graduates 4,068 June 10
The University of Cincinnati will hold All-University Commencement on Friday, June 10, in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center.
Commencement takes a more personal touch this year as part of the UC|21 strategic plan to place students at the center of the university. Each graduates name will be announced and each graduate will invited to the presidents platform to be personally congratulated. The personal touch is packing the house as a total of more than 20,600 guests and grads will celebrate the big day on campus.
Previously, graduates were asked to stand with fellow students in their respective colleges and schools to be congratulated as a group. To allow time for the new special recognition, UCs Commencement will be divided into two ceremonies:
Morning Ceremony

McMicken College of Arts and Sciences; Raymond Walters College; Clermont College; College of Allied Health Sciences; College of Medicine; College of Nursing; College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services
Award-winning Broadway producer and CCM graduate Kevin McCollum will deliver the University of Cincinnati Commencement address. McCollum will receive an honorary doctorate of performing arts at UCs Commencement. During the morning ceremony, the University Oration will be delivered by Lindsay Burton, who is earning her bachelor of fine arts degree in electronic media from the College-Conservatory of Music. The afternoon ceremony University Oration will be presented by Rachel Richardson, who is graduating with an associates degree in liberal arts from Raymond Walters College.
UC will award 4,105 degrees, including:
- 614 associate degrees
- 2,364 bachelors degrees
- 691 masters degrees
- 436 doctoral degrees

In addition to Kevin McCollum, the university will present honorary doctoral degrees to:
- Timothy D. Clarke, chairman and CEO of the Netherland Rubber Company
- William R. Nester, UC alum who has served offices of vice president, president and chancellor in higher education
- William F. Schulz, Executive Director of Amnesty International (USA)
- Chad P. Wick, president and CEO of KnowledgeWorks Foundation
- George J. Wile, a Cincinnati business leader and dedicated advocate of the UC Medical Center
The University of Cincinnati Award for Excellence will be presented to Elwood V. Jensen, a UC faculty member and recipient of the Lasker Award, the most coveted prize in biomedical research.
The Commencement ceremonies will be webcast by the Presentation Technologies & Services Group at the University of Cincinnati.

This marks the seventh year that UC Commencement has been carried on the Internet.
The traditional Alumni Association Reception will be held immediately after both ceremonies, at noon and 4 p.m., on Campus Green.
Commencement celebrations begin on Tuesday, June 9, at 7:30 p.m., with the doctoral hooding ceremony at Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center. Each doctoral candidate will receive the academic hood from his or her faculty advisor.

UC alum makes her mark in research, service

In 1960, as a young and eager statistician, Joan Reisch graduated from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, and pursued a career in Texas at the Southwestern Medical Center where she’s held numerous roles as both faculty and staff. This year, Reisch was recognized for her career accomplishments and contributions with the Philanthropist of the Year Award by UC’s Alumni Association. This award is given to an alumnus who has been highly engaged in philanthropic activities with A&S, or has made a significant impact on the college.
