A&S Writing Center Becomes Member of Consortium

The UC Arts and Sciences Writing Center, located in 257 McMicken Hall, has recently become a charter member of the Ohio Writing Center Consortium.

A&S Writing Center director Bill Zipfel has represented UC at the both the organizational meeting of the Consortium held February 2005 at Wright State in Dayton, and at the first-ever Directors’ Conference held October 2005 at Wittenberg University in Springfield. At the initial meeting members presented overviews of their respective centers and programs and mapped a strategy for further conferencing. The one-day Director’s Conference, hosted by Wittenberg U’s WC Director Maureen Fry, considered administrative concerns, including outreach and assessment of services. The next conference, tentatively scheduled for February 2006 at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, will be hosted by the Mount’s WC director Karl Zuelke, and will focus on tutor training, scheduling, and ongoing assessment, among other concerns.

Initiated by David Bringhurst, director of the Wright State Writing Center, and Joe Law, coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum at WSU, the OWCC now includes some 17 members from the Southwestern Ohio region:
