UC Alumnus Honored for Integrity, Compassion and Wisdom

Daniel P. Carmichael graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy in 1965 and a Juris Doctor in 1968.  He is an attorney for the law firm of Baker & Daniels. Prior to joining Baker & Daniels, Mr. Carmichael began his career working for the global research-based organization Eli Lilly & Company. For more than 28 years, he served in many roles, including: Director of the Washington, D.C. office, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs, and most recently as Secretary to the Board of Directors and Deputy General Counsel. 

Mr. Carmichael is a member of the American Society for Pharmacy Law, the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and a past chairman of the Food & Drug Law Institute.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the Lilly Endowment, Indiana University Public and Environmental Affairs Council and Indianapolis Legal Aid Society. He is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Conner Prairie Museum and 500 Festival, Inc. 

Mr. Carmichael’s depth of character – his wisdom, compassion, and integrity – fulfills the highest ideals of citizenship, leadership, family, and community. His dedication and commitment to the University of Cincinnati is outstanding. He is a lifetime member of the UC Alumni Association and a member of the McMicken Society. He has served on the College of Law Board of Visitors since 1993, and he worked tirelessly as the co-chair of the very recent search committee which brought Dean Louis Bilionis to the College of Law. He also serves on the UC Foundation Board of Trustees as a member of the Finance Committee. 

He currently resides in Carmel, Ind., with his wife, Judith, who earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Cincinnati in 1965.  Mr. and Mrs. Carmichael have three children.
