Four year grant awarded to UC Clermont College s Southwest Ohio Educational Opportunity Center.

The U. S. Department of Education announced a four-year refunding in the amount of $1,021,000 for the University of Cincinnati Clermont College’s Southwest Ohio Educational Opportunity Center (SOEOC).
The SOEOC’s main office is located on the UC Clermont campus.  Outreach sites are also located at Northern Kentucky University, Raymond Walters College, the Business Workforce and Resource Center of Clermont County, and the Superjobs Center in Cincinnati.

Part of the Federal TRIO Programs, SOEOC provides a broad range of services to a diverse population.  These services are free and include academic advice, personal and career counseling, information on postsecondary educational opportunities and financial aid, and assistance in completing applications for college admissions and financial aid.
“The past seven years the SOEOC has helped over 9,000 adults and high school students plan their careers, access financial aid, and attend regional and national colleges and vocational schools,” said John Fisher, SOEOC Program Director.

David Devier, Dean of UC Clermont agrees that the SOEOC provides an important link between post-secondary institutions and individuals interested in attending schools in the Greater Cincinnati region.  “The Educational Opportunity Center fulfills one of the most important missions of UC Clermont which is to foster a dynamic and supportive open-access educational community,” said Devier.

The Southwest Ohio Educational Opportunity Center staff is closely involved in the communities they serve and work closely with employment and social service agencies such as the Business and Workforce Resource Centers in Clermont and Hamilton Counties, colleges, universities and vocational schools, as well as faith based institutions like Mercy Connections and Catholic Social Services.
