UC Seniors: Honor Your Favorite Schoolteacher at December Commencement

The University of Cincinnati is inviting graduates from the Tristate to nominate an outstanding teacher that led them on the pathway to college. UC President Nancy L. Zimpher issued that invitation in an e-mail sent to fall graduates from the Greater Cincinnati area.

Students must send in their e-nominations by Oct. 27

(Nomination form)

Up to four Tristate teachers ranging from preschool to 12th grade will be recognized at UC’s December Commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in Fifth Third Arena at Shoemaker Center. The honorees will each receive a $1,000 scholarship to present to a student of their choosing who is entering UC in fall 2007. The nominating graduate will also participate in this special ceremony.

A UC committee comprised of students, faculty and staff will select the four Tristate educators to be honored. At a presentation during the Commencement Ceremony, they will receive a special citation and the $1,000 scholarship to present to a student who is entering UC as a freshman in fall 2007.

UC’s new December Commencement ceremony, marking its second year, is a celebration that exemplifies the UC|21 strategic plan to place students at the center of the university. Each of the marching graduates – master’s, baccalaureate and associate degree candidates – will have their names announced at the ceremony and will be personally congratulated by President Zimpher and their college deans. The ceremony recognizes graduates who finished their degree last summer or this fall. UC’s hooding ceremony for doctoral candidates will be held in the spring.
