UC Class of 2009 By the Numbers

The University of Cincinnati celebrates All-University Commencement during two ceremonies on Saturday, June 13, at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena. The Doctoral Hooding and Master’s Recognition Program will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 12, in Fifth Third Arena.

UC’s Office of Institutional Research reports that 4,430 students applied for graduation, earning:

  • 522 associate degrees
  • 2,511 baccalaureate degrees
  • 1,006 master degrees
  • 476 doctoral or professional degrees

325 degrees will be awarded cum laude (representing a grade-point-average between 3.60 and 3.7499)
240 degrees will be awarded magna cum laude (GPA between 3.75 and 3.8999)
126 degrees will be awarded summa cum laude (GPA between 3.9 and 4.0)

The average age of the spring graduate is 27. Thirteen graduates are listed as marking their birthday on June 13, the day of Commencement. The age of the youngest graduate, earning an associate’s degree, is 18. The age of the oldest graduate, earning a master’s degree, is 64.

Number of women earning degrees: 2,575 (58.1 percent)
Number of men earning degrees: 1,855 (41.9 percent)

13.1 percent of the graduates reflect a minority group (African-American, Asian, Hispanic and American Indian)

8.7 percent of the graduates are African-American, up slightly from 8.2 percent in spring 2008.

The graduates represent 63 countries and 47 states, plus Washington, D.C.
