President Signs Sustainability Pledge; Asks Others to Do the Same

Taking steps to achieve a key goal of UC’s strategic plan, President Gregory H. Williams, in cooperation with Student Government, has invited the university community to join him in signing the UC Sustainability Pledge.

October is Sustainability Month and the Student Government has created an online pledge in cooperation with the President's Advisory Council on Environment and Sustainability, the Student Sustainability Coalition and Undergraduate Student Government Association, with support from UC's Office of Sustainability.

To take the pledge, see UC Sustainability Pledge.

Sustainability is one of major goals of the university’s new strategic plan, UC2019: Accelerating Our Transformation. The plan commits UC to a “careful and responsible approach to our environment and resources.”

This fall, UC’s sustainability efforts have stepped up to include a new “All Recycling” program that is placing containers in UC administrative, academic and residential buildings on the Uptown, Academic Health Center, UC Reading and UC Victory Parkway campuses. The program, managed by Facilities Management, accepts – all in one bin – newspapers, junk mail, white and colored paper, magazines and catalogs, paper board, cardboard boxes, aluminum cans, steel food cans, and plastic bottles and jugs.  Last spring, UC also launched a bike-share program that is based in the Campus Recreation Center.

In recent months, the university also has received a number of accolades for energy-savings and environmental efforts. The Chronicle of Higher Education recently featured the university’s energy efficiency efforts and praised the university’s utility plant in Corryville. Princeton Review placed UC on its list of the nation’s top “green schools,” making it the only public university in Ohio to achieve that designation.
