Enquirer: Geology Professor Knows Hills are Key to Cincy's Psyche

The hills of Cincinnati are alive with our city’s cognitive and colloquial idiosyncrasies. For centuries, the rolling hummocks have symbolized the topographical and psychological epicenters of many of the Queen City’s communities.

It’s a geographical quirk that can be endearing or enraging, depending on your perspective. When building consensus for important citywide projects it can be particularly frustrating, according to University of Cincinnati

professor emeritus Paul Potter.

Potter was recently interviewed for a Cincinnati Enquirer story on Cincinnati’s legendary hills. “Each (hill) has people who think and talk a little differently,” Potter says. “This makes us behave at times like a bunch of tribes protecting their turf.”
