New Student Organization Strives to Increase Awareness of UC's Kolodzik Business Scholars Program
Students who belong to the Marvin P. Kolodzik Business Scholars (KBS) Program in the Lindner College of Business are fond of their affiliation. Pride motivated students to create a student organization called the Kolodzik Business Scholars Association (KBSA) to encompass goals of three KBS subcommittees: community service, social involvement and personal branding of KBS students, as well as the Kolodzik name.
To fulfill the third goal, five KBSA students created a video as a pledge of loyalty to the scholars program.
Amin Shawki, BBA 12; James Love, BBA 12; Babacar Guisse, BBA12; Jared Yates, BBA 13; and Tori Roser, BBA 13; got together to film, edit or be interviewed for the video to spread the word about the significance of their program.
We hope that this video describes the program and what we do in a way that continues to build upon our strong reputation as business professionals, Love says.
Students posted the video to YouTube, with links provided in emails and other social media outlets of Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Marianne Lewis, director of the Kolodzik Business Scholars Program, associate dean for undergraduate programs and professor of management, says she is truly inspired by the video.
I love the interwoven and clear message, the comments, the music and the photos, says Lewis. We will look at sharing the video via email with students offered admission into KBS for next fall.
So far, the response to the
through social media outlets has been incredible, Shawki says.
Even a few people outside of the college have mentioned how great our program is after viewing the video, Shawki says. In the past two weeks since we originally posted the video to YouTube, we already have 351 views and 20 likes. In social media, that's pretty remarkable."
The KBSA group hopes to further increase program and association awareness through other activities, such as logo creation, business cards and online presence through social media. The other KBSA committees aim to promote social gatherings and community service such activities as American Cancer Societys Relay For Life fundraiser, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Cincinnati Dance Marathon and more.
Love and other members say they "hope the video portrays the program in its true form, a top-tier student-driven business program, he says.
