UC Clermont Women's Basketball Players Earn Top Honors at National Tournament
UC Clermont Womens Basketball Team (No. 6 seed) recently participated in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament in Uniontown, Pa. Five of the Lady Cougars received awards at the USCAA National Banquet, including:
Marisa Stutz senior guard (Felicity) - 1st Team All-American
Ashley Keith junior guard/forward (Clark Montessori) - 2nd Team All-American
Stacy Lee junior center (Lakota West) - 2nd Team All-American
Tess Jenike sophomore guard (Bethel) - won both the free throw contest and the three point competition (the first time anyone from one school has won both)
Alex Junker sophomore center (Milford) - Academic All-American
That means that one half of our team received recognition for athletic or academic excellence at the USCAA National Tournament what a great representation for UC Clermont College, said Director of Student Life Kim Ellison.
UC Clermont is one of 40 teams, including Mens and Womens Division I and Division II, to earn a bid to this tournament. The Lady Cougars lost their first game against Albany College of Pharmacy (No. 3 Seed), 50-45.
However, the next day the Lady Cougars soundly beat the Lady Clippers from the University of Maine-Machias, 80-49, according to Peggy Hager, associate professor of mathematics at UC Clermont and the Cougars academic advisor.
The Lady Clippers had as much as a 9-point lead early in the first half, but we pulled ahead and the half ended 38-21," Hager said. "The Lady Cougars, however, were on fire (in the second half). There were five ladies in double figures: Kayla Stutz (22), Ashley Keith (16), Katie Slavey (11), Tess Jenike (10) and Brooke Catauro (10). Marisa Stutz, in her final game as a Lady Cougar, had a double-double. Ashley Keith had a triple-double.
