'Agents of Desensitization' Featured in Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont
"Agents of Desensitization" by artist
Dominic Sansone
will be featured in the Park National Bank Art Gallery at UC Clermont College from May 5-28.
Sansones exhibit is influenced by the assembly line fabrication of industrial machinery, weaponry and munitions and even food repetition plays a significant function in his sculpture.
My current body of artwork explores the violence of humankind and the role each of us play in facilitating an endless cycle of barbarity. From my childhood I can recall a great fear of the Soviet Union and nuclear obliteration at their hands, and now, thanks to the nightly news, my sons may have radical Islamists and terrorists as the source for their nightmares. Always a new enemy, always some new evil to vanquish, war without end. Americans, in particular, have seemingly become addicted to the state of war, in part, due to our desensitization at the hands of the media we consume. From video games glorifying killing, to twenty-four hour coverage of conflicts, to real time video of smart bombs dropping down chimneys; we have an endless supply of stimuli to numb ourselves. The pain and suffering endured by others becomes nothing more than flickering images on a screen, said Sansone.
Sansone is from St. Charles, Ill., and received his Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art and Public Life from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis.
The Park National Bank Art Gallery is located in the Snyder building on the UC Clermont College campus in Batavia at 4200 Clermont College Drive. Summer gallery hours are Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed weekends.
