Contest Winner from UC Designs High-Tech Vision of Volkswagen
Simon Wells is getting a jump-start on his future by imagining what the future of Volkswagen might be like.
Wells, a senior industrial design student in the
University of Cincinnatis College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning
, was selected as one of three winners in the 2014
.
Wells classmate
was also among the winners of the contest. Both Wells and Bresn will intern with the car maker in Germany. The six-month internship offers the winners the chance to experience and participate in the daily operation of the global company where they will be given the chance to work on ongoing production projects.
The contest brief required participants to design an innovative concept vehicle and scenario for a video game.
Wells' submission, The Quantum Ambassador, features a futuristic vehicle designed to send a team of scientists on an adventure through an artificial black hole. The Quantum Ambassador is a design collaboration between the
(European Organization for Nuclear Research) and Volkswagen and is equipped with high-tech solutions to provide protection to passengers as they venture into the unknown. Wells' design goal was to have fun trying new things with semi-plausible technologies.
Wells is excited for his internship at Volkswagen Design Center. I hope to improve my sketching and to also better learn how to transition 2-D design to a 3-D clay model, stated Wells.
Wells encourages other students to enter into industry contests. Contests are good as they level the playing field for everyone. It's not just who you know in the industry anymore.
In addition, Wells recommends the UC
to prospective students as a great way to get invaluable industry work experience. The UC Cooperative Education Program puts students way ahead of the competition in terms of work and life experiences, stated Wells. I feel fortunate to be graduating with four internships already. Its been an adventure.
