eLearning (short for electronic learning) is an umbrella term that refers to all types of training, education; on and instruction that occurs on a digital medium, like a computer or mobile phone. Face to face, Web+enhanced, Technology+enhanced, Flipped, Hybrid and Distance courses all employ eLearning technologies. eLearning at the University of Cincinnati is construed very broadly in alignment with the faculty senate definition.
At UC, our faculty, staff and students are engaged in eLearning at varying levels. The mission of all those involved in eLearning is to support faculty, staff, and students' understanding of these resources as part of a greater mission to realize our Third Century Plan.
Canopy is UC's eLearning ecosystem and community for all those interested in excelling at eLearning. In addition to the ecosystem tools, it includes faculty and staff development resources and pedagogical strategies. Supporting Canopy, the eLearning community at UC comprises faculty and staff across the university, including a Distance Learning Team, a Learning Support Team, an Analytics Team, and a central team within the newly formed Center for Excellence in eLearning.
In partnership with the colleges, the Office of the Provost, Faculty Senate, CET&L, IT@UC, UC Libraries, Disability Services, and Continuing Education, eLearning at UC supports excellence and innovation across all teaching and learning activities.
