Oktoberfest Zinzinnati returns to Cincinnati's riverfront for its 50th anniversary in 2026. Second only to the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, Cincinnati’s is the largest festival of its kind in the U.S. and a tribute to Cincinnati’s German roots.

UC tip: Take Metro or rideshare instead of driving downtown, and choose a meeting spot with friends before entering the festival area.

Hear ye, hear ye! This festival recreates a 16th-century English village and features dozens of shows, stages and shops. Dress up, get in character or just enjoy the prime people-watching. Huzzah!

UC tip: The Ren faire is farther from campus, but it can make a memorable day trip. Carpool with friends and plan to spend most of the day there. Date-specific tickets can sell out, so check the official calendar and buy tickets online before leaving campus.

Fall is the perfect time to visit the Cincinnati Zoo, ranked America's best. The zoo gets in the Halloween spirit every October, when you can see the Internet-famous Fiona the hippo and other animals enjoy pumpkin enrichment and other seasonal surprises. Or visit at night for Jack O’Lantern Glow, where 6,000 hand-carved pumpkins illuminate the zoo.

Highlights: Projection mapping, large-scale light installations, public art, murals and interactive experiences across more than 30 city blocks of illuminated art

The world-renowned biennial BLINK festival returns in 2026 for four nights of illuminated public art. BLINK features artists from around the world across Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. It’s one of Cincinnati’s most unique arts and culture offerings and an exciting way to explore the city as buildings and murals come to life with lights.

UC tip: BLINK overlaps with UC Family Weekend, Oct. 9-11, making it an especially convenient weekend for students with visiting family. Consider public transit (Metro, streetcar) or ride-sharing to get around.

Yayoi Kusama: All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins

Dates: Through Oct. 18, 2026

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (1929-2026) is known for her use of color and polka dots, themes of repetition, and immersive installations. On exhibit at the Cincinnati Art Museum, “All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins” features an infinity mirror room with illuminated pumpkins that makes for an elite selfie spot just in time for fall.

General museum admission remains free, but this special exhibition requires a ticket.

Student tip: College students receive a discounted exhibition ticket, and the installation is free to nonmembers on Thursday evenings from 5-8 p.m. during the exhibition. Make a day out of it and enjoy a walk around Eden Park after you take in the exhibit.

You don't have to leave campus to find fall activities. UC's calendar fills up with football, Homecoming, Family Weekend, student organization events, performances and other campus traditions.

The general Family Weekend pass is sold out for 2026, but families who did not register can still participate in some campus celebrations and events.

Highlights: Homecoming parade, campus events, tailgates, alumni activities and the Homecoming football game

The 2026 Homecoming game is Oct. 24, when the Bearcats host Texas Tech at Nippert Stadium. It also marks UC's 100th Homecoming celebration.

Student tip: Even if you don't have a football ticket, the parade and surrounding campus activity can make Homecoming a fun way to spend a fall Saturday.

Nippert is in the heart of UC's Uptown Campus, making a home football game one of the top fall activities for students to experience without leaving campus. The 2026 home schedule includes four games after the season's opening stretch.

The Oct. 24 Texas Tech game is UC's 100th Homecoming game, while the Oct. 31 Utah game gives students a Halloween-weekend football option.

For students, GetInvolvedUC is one of the most useful places to find current campus events. Students can search by date, event type and other filters, and the platform also connects students with student organizations. 

A short drive out of the city center and you’ll find several farms that offer fall produce and seasonal fun events.

Kings Island Halloween Haunt

Worth the drive to neighboring Warren County, the popular 364-acre amusement park Kings Island transforms into an epic Halloween experience each fall. Visitors can get passes to the entire park or pick and choose attractions.

Burnet Woods

Burnet Woods sits directly next to the University of Cincinnati and offers a 90-acre wooded escape from campus. Burnet Woods Fall Fest on Oct. 17, 2026, features pumpkin carving, music, entertainment and food trucks.

UC tip: This is one of the easiest places to turn a study break into a fall walk without needing a car.

Ault Park
