Why study Environmental Health : Industrial Hygiene?

All students learn to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and design programs and systems to control exposures in the environmental or occupational setting that are causing or may be expected to result in adverse human health effects. Academic study at the Ph.D. level is available in three areas of concentration: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Ergonomics, Biomonitoring. Graduate study is supported by a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research training grant, University and other resources.

Admission Requirements

You will need the following to complete your application:

  • Statement of Purpose and objectives
  • Unofficial transcripts for ALL higher education institutions attended
  • Three Letters of Recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic or professional background.
  • International applicants whose native language is not English (please refer to the University's English Proficiency Requirement for more information, https://grad.uc.edu/fac-staff/handbook/graduate-admission/international-admission/english.html) must take the TOEFL exam and submit official scores directly from the testing agency to be considered for the program. The above website also gives a list of additional exams and certificates that are approved by the University.
  • International transcripts should be evaluated by WES.
  • Official transcripts of all colleges and universities must be submitted if accepted to the program. These must be official, therefore copies cannot replace official records from higher educational institutions attended.
The information provided is sourced from a third party, Lightcast. Their product, called Career Coach, combines extensive labor market data from Lightcast and the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides insights on industry, occupation, compensation, and projected growth for each profession. Economic and workforce information is available for various geographic regions. Some careers may require additional training or education.

Application Deadlines

If you would like to submit an electronic application for the Envirionmental and Industrial Hygiene program, please visit our Online Graduate School Application and complete the form.

Only students applying to the full-time programs in Environmental and Industrial Hygiene are eligible to receive University Graduate Assistantship funding. This funding in not available for our part-time programs in Environmental and Industrial Hygiene. Funding is generally only available in the Fall semester and any application to be considered for funding must be completed by February 1st.
