UC has a proud history of drug development, from Albert Sabin developing the first oral polio vaccine to George Rieveschl helping to invent Benadryl. Alumnus John Drach made his mark as a coinventor of a new antiviral drug that was recently approved by the FDA after more than 30 years of research, setbacks and company mergers. The drug development graduate program continues to train the next generation of pioneers in the field, with at least 50 UC alumni having played a part in discovering or developing drugs that are currently on the market.
