Colloquium
The Taft Colloquium provides structure and support for fellows in our year-long residential programs who benefit from regular cross-disciplinary and cross-rank exchange.
Fellows meet each week to discuss and share their research and writing over lunch. Fellows gain experience presenting their projects, methods, and approaches for an interdisciplinary audience and participate in workshops on writing, publishing, and how to sustain their projects after their fellowship year. Throughout the year, each fellow invites an interlocutor to read and respond to their work-in-progress and guide the group in a generative discussion about it.
My book could not have been written without Taft's support as a fellow. Being in community made me feel even more connected to my work at UC and to my own project. Through the colloquium, I was able to see the structure and outline of my book in a clearer way.

Participating in the weekly colloquium was a turning point in my scholarly journey — the conversations I had there pushed my book manuscript in directions I wouldn't have reached if I stayed in a mono-disciplinary environment.
