Group Award Programs
Taft supports a range of collective, interdisciplinary research endeavors that explore timely and enduring humanistic questions and approaches.
Group awards are made to individual faculty who are responsible for regularly convening participants. Groups could focus on a shared research project or set of questions, meet to discuss readings at the intersection of different fields, provide substantive feedback to one another on their works-in-progress, or develop and deliver seminars or short courses.
Research Collectives
Our Research Collective programs offer support to convene regular meetings of faculty, students, and research staff on topics of mutual interest.
Research Groups
Designed to provide a platform, resources, and visibility for emerging areas of research on campus, and facilitate collaborations that would otherwise be impossible, the Taft Research Group program bring together scholars from different fields of study to pursue timely questions of collective interest and disseminate research to broad audiences. $3,000 in funding is available for each group, renewable for up to 3 years.
Reading Groups
The Taft Reads program provides $300 in annual support(up to 3 years) for Taft faculty-organized reading discussion groups on topics and themes of broad interest. Proposals for new groups are accepted on a rolling basis. Group participation is open to all.
Working Groups
New for the 2026–27 academic year, Taft Working Groups provide support for faculty, students, and research staff to meet regularly to share and discuss works-in-progress. Application & Eligibility information coming soon!
Seminars & Short Courses
Our Seminar & Short Course award programs provide funding for faculty and research staff to develop and deliver courses that center methods or topics from multiple approaches.
Taft Research Seminars
This award program supports faculty and research staff who want to develop and deliver credit-bearing research seminars designed for graduate and advanced undergraduate and students interested in reading, thinking, and working collaboratively across the humanities and social sciences. We provide both $2,500 summer development awards and up to $15,000 seminar awards.
Taft Summer Research Institute
This award programs supports faculty and research staff who want to develop and deliver short courses in humanistic research methods open to all undergraduates regardless of major or research experience. We provide both $2,500 summer development awards and $10,000 institute awards.
