The Woman's Club

Founded in April 1926, The Woman’s Club of the University of Cincinnati seeks to promote friendship among its members, provide opportunities for personal enrichment through organized intellectual, cultural, and recreational activities, and to support the interests of the University through our scholarship program and community service projects.  Membership is open to all current and retired faculty, administrators, and other staff affiliated with the University; spouses, widows, widowers, and domestic partners of such individuals; alumni; and other individuals who wish to support the interests of the University and The Woman’s Club.

All activities, programs, and special events sponsored by the Club are scheduled primarily during the academic year (October through May).  Many take place during the day, but some are in the evening or on the weekend.  We sponsor noon luncheon or early supper programs at the Faculty Club or other appropriate campus venues on the first Wednesday of each month (except December and May) with interesting speakers from within and outside the University community.  General membership meetings always follow the scheduled monthly programs.

Each year we host two special events that are held off campus: our Annual Holiday Party in December and our Annual May Luncheon.  This year’s scholarship recipients are introduced at the Holiday Party and our newly elected officers are installed at the May Luncheon.

We also sponsor Interest Circles, which usually meet once a month in members’ homes or other convenient locations.  There are currently ten circles reflecting the diverse interests of our members:

  • Antiques and Collectibles
  • Book (day and evening)
  • Bridge (day and evening)
  • Drama
  • Friends and Food
  • Needlecraft, Variety/Networking
  • Volunteer

These informal groups offer members an especially enjoyable way share their common interests and get to know one another on a more personal level.  For many members, they are where acquaintances develop into life-long friendships.

The Club’s endowed scholarship fund was established in the mid 1930’s with an initial deposit of $1,000 from its reserve fund and now has assets over $100,000. Our scholarships are awarded to sophomore students who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher and who have financial needs.  The scholarships are renewable for two additional years, as long as the required GPA is maintained.  The dollar amounts of the scholarships have varied from $1,000 to $3,000 per student per year.  Since 2005, we have awarded approximately $69,000 in scholarships to deserving women students pursuing their undergraduate degrees at this University.

Newsletter is published and mailed to current members eight times a year for the months of October through May, if opted the printed version. All others will receive it via e-mail. The minutes of our general business meetings and information about upcoming special events and fundraising activities, and other newsworthy items are published in each newsletter.

“Yearbook”, is published and mailed to current members each year in September. This publication includes an overview of the Club’s history, the constitution and by-laws, a membership directory, and current listings of the Club’s governing board officers, committee chairs and circle chairs along with their contact information.
