Course Overview

The Tri-State GI in Women conference hosted by University of Cincinnati aims to foster an environment that promotes career development, networking, mentorship, and collaboration for women in the field of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. This course will provide practical guidance by expert gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons on how to treat common gastrointestinal diseases such as eosinophilic esophagitis, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and obesity.  It will provide the attendee with practical tips on how to perform a high-quality endoscopy exam and give expert guidance on every-day challenges that women face such as mentorship, sponsorship, effective time-management, stress management, and how to bill more effectively for time spent on patient care.

Objectives:

1. Identify ways to manage your time efficiently at work and at home.

2. Identify ways to optimize billing for inpatient and outpatient care.

3. Identify ways to perform high-quality endoscopy exams.

4. Implement a stress management strategy by exploring meditation and deep breathing.  

5. Implement practical management strategies for hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

6. Describe the treatment for eosinophilic esophagitis using dupilumab.

7. Describe the new GLP-1 medications available to treat obesity.

8. Implement strategies to be a good mentor and sponsor for women in gastroenterology.

Target Audience:

General gastroenterologist, hepatologist, colorectal surgeons, and advance practitioners.

Course Overview

The University of Cincinnati Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Course will provide an in-depth overview of how to treat and monitor patients with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Lectures will be given by expert inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal physicians, and psychologists on the positioning of small molecules and biologics, perioperative management of medications, inpatient management of ulcerative colitis beyond using infliximab, and management of anxiety/depression by a mental health specialist.

Objectives:

1. Identify the rationale for positioning of biologic therapies and small molecules for Crohn's disease.

2. Identify the rationale for positioning of biologic therapies and small molecules for ulcerative colitis.

3. Implement a mental health strategy on how to tackle anxiety and depression in inflammatory bowel disease patients.

4. Implement perioperative disease management strategies.

5. Describe the treatment options available for the management of inpatient acute severe ulcerative colitis beyond infliximab. 

Target Audience:

General gastroenterologist, hepatologist, colorectal surgeon, advance practitioner, gastroenterology fellows, gastroenterology nurses, and internal medicine and surgery residents.
