Can Kentucky and Indiana Residents receive in-state tuition at the University of Cincinnati?
Yes. Eligible Kentucky and Indiana residents can receive in-state tuition rates at the University of Cincinnati, with a small $25 per credit hour surcharge (capped at $300 per semester). Frequently asked questions
- What is tuition reciprocity?
- Tuition reciprocity allows eligible Kentucky and Indiana residents to pay Ohio in-state tuition plus a small $25 per credit hour surcharge (up to $300 per semester) at the University of Cincinnati. It reduces the cost of attending UC by thousands of dollars per year and applies automatically based on your county/state residency at the time of application.
- How do I qualify as a KY or IN resident?
- You qualify by being a legal resident of Kentucky or Indiana and meeting UC’s residency requirements for tuition purposes. Residency is reviewed when you submit your UC application — no extra steps are required. Your tuition classification (including reciprocity eligibility) will appear in your applicant status portal. If you believe your residency was classified incorrectly, you can contact the UC Office of the Registrar for review.
- Does reciprocity cover all majors?
- Yes. UC’s KY/IN reciprocity rate applies to all undergraduate majors and all UC campuses, including: Uptown (main campus) UC Blue Ash, and UC Clermont. Students in any undergraduate degree program can receive the in-state tuition rate with the $25/credit hour surcharge.
- Do I need to apply separately?
- No. There is no separate application for tuition reciprocity. Your eligibility is automatically determined based on the residency information you provide on your UC application.
- Is financial aid still available?
- Yes. Reciprocity students are fully eligible for federal financial aid, UC scholarships, grants, and other aid opportunities. Your tuition rate does not affect your ability to receive financial support.
- Does reciprocity apply to online programs?
- In most cases, yes — online undergraduate programs charge a single tuition rate that already reflects the reduced metro or reciprocity pricing. However, rates can vary by program, so students should confirm specific tuition details for the online major they’re interested in.
- What if I transfer or am an adult learner?
- You may still qualify — our team can walk you through your options.
