The Pre-Professional Advising Center helps you prepare for law school through a vigorous advising process that includes various workshops and one-on-one appointments.
How to Work with the PPAC
- Attend a Pre-Law Introduction Workshop for new pre-professional students (see info below). This is required before you can schedule a one-on-one appointment or attend additional workshops.
- Schedule your first one-on-one advising appointment.
- Continue to meet with your PPAC advisor at least once a semester and attend additional workshops (see below) to learn about the different components of your application
Other Events
We highly recommend you attend other PPAC events hosted throughout the year, such as the Law School Fair.
Pre-Law Workshops
For First-Year, Sophomore, and Beginning Pre-Law Students
It is required to attend this workshop before you can make an appointment with a PPAC advisor or attend additional workshops.
This workshop is designed for students interested in applying to law school and covers the following topics:
- Exploring and selecting a major
- Career exploration
- Timeline to applying to law school
- Extra-curricular activities
- Academic and non-academic choices and preparation

For Juniors, Seniors or Alumni
This workshop helps juniors and seniors prepare for the process of applying to law school and writing their personal statements. Attending this workshop is required for students who want their personal statement reviewed with a PPAC advisor.
In this workshop, we’ll cover:
- Assessing your readiness to apply
- Writing the personal statement for law school
- Application process and timeline
- LSAT preparation information

Financial options for law school are changing. Don’t miss this opportunity exclusively for UC students to learn about your options for funding law school in this changing landscape!
A little knowledge about the financial aid process and available options will go a long way in lowering your stress as you fund your legal education. During this event, an Accredited Financial Counselor® from AccessLex Institute® will discuss cost of attendance, the financial aid application process, and the types of aid available to law students. Attendees can follow up this event with free financial coaching, lessons, and events through Ask EDNA! – the Education Network at AccessLex.

Expanding upon the topics discussed in the Law School Application + Personal Statement Workshop, this interactive three-part series gives you an opportunity to collaborate, brainstorm, draft, and revise with support from peers and pre-professional advisors. Note: You are not required to attend the Law School Application + Personal Statement Workshop to register for the Step by Step Writing Series. Furthermore, you can attend one session or all three.
- Part 1: Brainstorm Productively. Break down the prompt, spark ideas, and start writing. Wednesday, March 11, 4:30-5:30pm on MS Teams
- Part 2: Draft a Compelling Narrative. Learn dos and don'ts, write your story, and get friendly feedback. Wednesday, March 25, 4:30-5:30pm on MS Teams
- Part 3: Revise & Edit with Confidence. Polish your draft with group editing and constructive suggestions. Wednesday, April 8, 4:30-5:30pm on MS Teams
